About

A cultural publication beginning in Zile

TRYPHE is an independent PRactice publication exploring the Roman mosaic found in Zile and the art, history and conservation surrounding it.

The subject

Five letters on a pavement became the starting point for a longer story. Beginning with the Zile mosaic inscribed ΤΡΥΦΗ, TRYPHE explores ancient Zela, Roman visual culture and the care of archaeological heritage. Close attention to the find sits alongside comparative works from other places.

Publisher

TRYPHE is a PRactice publication. First published on 6 November 2026, it was designed and developed by PRactice Digital Workshop. It is not an official publication of the excavation team, Tokat Museum or a public institution.

Editorial approach

The articles draw on academic research, museum catalogues, ancient texts, institutional notices and dated news reports. Specialist assessments are attributed to the people who made them. Comparative works are introduced with their own places of origin and dates.

The Turkish and English editions cover the same subjects, sections and sources. Dates of finds and fieldwork are distinguished from the publication’s update date. Corrections and new information are considered together with their supporting evidence.

Photographs and drawings

Each figure identifies the work, place and source. Images from Olba, Antioch, the panel attributed to Emesa, Paphos and Perge are comparative examples. Published drawings are identified as drawings, and known modern restoration is noted.

The first photograph of the Zile mosaic is credited to Anadolu Agency and comes from Daily Sabah’s publication of 12 May 2025. Other figures derive from the news, research or museum records named beneath them. The Metropolitan Museum of Art publishes its Ktisis image in the Public Domain. Reuse permissions for images without a verified open licence remain under review; attribution does not replace permission.
